Non-profit use is where there is no potential to make money. For example, if you upload your track to Soundcloud to showcase your work, or upload it to Youtube (without advertising monetization). You can send your track incorporating our vocal recordings (but not the standalone vocal recording) to Record Labels to see if they are interested in commercially releasing your remix. If the label is interested in a commercial release, you or the record label must apply for a licence before it is released.

Educational use is where private individuals use our vocal recordings to learn and practice music production and there is no potential to make money.

With either of these uses, https://freevocals.staging.wpengine.com MUST be credited in the description when the remix is uploaded (e.g. “Acapella downloaded from https://freevocals.staging.wpengine.com“) or you can include a link to the acapella that you downloaded from our website.

EULA stands for End User Licence Agreement. This agreement outlines the terms and conditions and restrictions that you (the end user) agree to when you download the acapellas from our website.

Copyright is a legal right that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. Free Vocals have a publishing agreement with the vocalists and composers and is either the owner or Licensor of the vocal recordings and sound recordings available to download from this website. We own and control the copyright.

There are two separate components of any recording of a musical work: the composition copyright and the sound recording copyright. In most cases, our vocalists and composers have both composed and performed the vocal recordings and sound recordings. They are both the author and performer.

Musical Composition:

The musical composition consists of the written music including any accompanying words. The author of a musical composition is the composer and/or the lyricist. A musical composition can be in the form of sheet music, lyrics sheet or in a sound recording.

Sound Recording:

The sound recording results from combining a series of sounds into a medium that can be played back. The author of a sound recording is the performer(s) whose performance is fixed, the record producer/engineer who processes the sounds and arranges them in the final recording, or both. Copyright in a sound recording is not the same as copyright in the underlying musical composition.

A music publisher (or publishing company) is responsible for ensuring that songwriters and composers receive payment when their compositions are used commercially. Through an agreement called a publishing contract, a songwriter or composer “assigns” the copyright of their composition to a publishing company. In return, the company licenses compositions, helps monitor where compositions are used, collects royalties and distributes them to the composers. They also secure commissions for music and promote existing compositions to recording artists, film and television. Composition copyright is separate from Master recording copyright.

Master recording copyright is typically owned by a record label or record company.

A record label or record company is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. They coordinate the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing and promotion of sound recordings and music videos; conduct talent scouting and development of new artists (“artists and repertoire” or “A&R”); and maintain contracts with recording artists and their managers.

Our Free and Royalty Free Downloads are provided on a non-exclusive basis. This means that anyone can download them and licence them for commercial use, subject to our terms and conditions.

You MUST obtain permission from our licensing team if you want to feature the vocalists name in your remix title (example: featuring “Vocalist Name”) BEFORE you upload it.

Our vocalists only allow their name to be used on certain tracks. This could be because they only want to be associated with certain styles/genres, or there are issues with the quality of the production, or the production has explicit content.

How does it work?

1 – Decide

Which vocalist is suitable for your track? Which custom vocals package do you need? Do you need the vocalist to write original material or record from guide vocals/lyrics? Do you want to share the royalties or buy out the vocal recordings? Just ask us for more information if you need advice and we will be happy to help.

2 – Deadlines

If you have a deadline for the vocal recording, let us know and we will advise if the vocals can be provided in that timescale. Every project is different and there may be a waiting list.

3 – Discuss

Fill out the contact form or email studio@freevocals.com and we will reply within 48 hours. We can answer your questions and discuss agreements and recording fees. There’s no obligation to proceed until you’re ready and we’re happy to work within your deadlines. Please provide detailed instructions if you have any specific requirements for your project.

4 – Record

Original Vocals: We need your audio track as an .mp3, or .wav file. If you have any specific ideas or references for inspiration, then send them in your instructions but our vocalists can write for you from scratch if you need.

Session Vocals: We need the audio track as an .mp3, or .wav file with guide vocals and/or lyrics (Please provide guide vocals on a separate track)

You will be sent an invoice for a 50% deposit before our vocalists start recording: Payment is accepted via PayPal or BACS payment.

5 – Reasonable Changes

You will be emailed an initial mp3 demo for your approval. Then we can discuss any reasonable changes that you need and the vocals will be adjusted as necessary. Some examples of unreasonable changes would be changing the backing track, bpm or the key after the finalised instructions or requesting changes in dynamics or style that were not originally specified. Please be as detailed as possible with your instructions and listen to examples of the vocalists voice to make sure they are suitable for your track. Our vocalists only accept custom vocals projects that they feel confident they will be able to deliver quality vocals for.

6 – Final Take

When the vocals have been finalised, they will be sent to you by email as raw/dry 24Bit .wav files after the final payment is received.
